MetaConnex is excited to welcome Grant Findlay as a Non‑Executive Director, augmenting board-level strength with his deep expertise in infrastructure, governance, and strategic delivery.

Grant’s career highlights include high‑profile major leadership roles for GCHQ, the East London Line extension, and the London 2012 broadcast facilities. In 2020 he took the pivotal role as Group Director of Strategy at Sir Robert McAlpine, where he led the reorganisation into a sector-focused national model, driving productivity, net-zero innovation, and digital transformation across UK-wide infrastructure projects in healthcare, commercial, industrial, and major public schemes. Before that, he spent time at the Madison Square Garden Entertainment Company, working on the cutting-edge Las Vegas Sphere venue before rejoining McAlpine.

In May 2023, Grant was appointed Executive Managing Director, Buildings, at Sir Robert McAlpine; a business with nearly £1 billion in annual revenue. In this capacity, he led delivery across healthcare, education, commercial offices, and heritage projects. A Chartered Civil Engineer Grant also co‑founded the Construction Data Trust, advancing data-driven innovation across the construction sector.

As NED at MetaConnex, Grant will support digital construction development, bringing his extensive experience and expertise to the forefront. He will work closely with the team and Joseph, who has driven net-zero and high-performance building initiatives across four continents. Together, their combined knowledge of construction, sustainability, and modern building principles will shape a cutting-edge digital construction component for MetaConnex.

This innovation aims to streamline viability assessment and planning, integrating design, structure, and procurement into the broader masterplan. By pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, they will accelerate progress in the industry—driving forward a future built on knowledge, efficiency, and performance.

Q&A with Grant Findlay

You’ve held senior roles at firms like Sir Robert McAlpine and Carillion; what drew

you to join MetaConnex as a Non-Exec at this point in your career?

→ I am inspired by the vision and ambition that MetaConnex has and welcome the opportunity to join the experienced team to share my ideas on the digital transformation of project delivery.

What lessons did you take from delivering projects like the Sphere and leading £1bn+

national portfolios?

→ I am an advocate of evidence backed decision making, but so often we lack the data to help us make informed decisions. The federation of disparate data sets can create new insights to improve planning and implementation.

Where do you see the biggest gaps in how regeneration is currently approached?

→ One of the big gaps is the transfer of learning between major regeneration schemes. Financial viability is clearly very important but this one-dimensional approach limits marginal schemes being progressed where other value generators are deprioritised.

How can industry and government work better together on national delivery?

→ Better collaboration between industry and government could transform infrastructure delivery. UK Government holds a vast amount of data on construction project delivery which is not easy to access but could provide valuable insights to improve our collective capability.

What’s one project you’re most proud to have been part of — and why?

→ I am so proud of the small part I played in delivering London 2012. An opportunity to work on an home Olympics is very rare, and my experience of collaborating with so many great people, focussed on excellent delivery was a great learning experience for me.
